Essex Shared Services are delighted to be advertising the role of Environment Ranger on behalf of Castle Point Borough Council

We are looking for a motivated and practical Environment Ranger to join our Environment Service, delivering a visible, responsive and community-focused service across the borough.

This is a varied, hands-on role where you will help ensure that our parks, open spaces, woodlands, cemeteries, allotments and associated facilities are safe, well-managed and welcoming for residents and visitors.

You will play a key role in protecting public safety, supporting environmental quality and biodiversity whilst working closely with contractors, colleagues and local communities.

The role involves carrying out routine and reactive inspections across parks, open spaces, woodlands, cemeteries, allotments, car parks and related facilities to ensure high standards of safety and service. You will identify hazards, defects, vandalism and anti-social behaviour, taking prompt action to make areas safe and arranging repairs or enforcement where needed.

The postholder will monitor contractor performance, undertake minor grounds maintenance and basic repairs, and respond to public enquiries, complaints and service requests in line with agreed standards. You’ll support emergency responses, liaise with police, emergency services and utility providers, and contribute to land management plans, quality assessments and community initiatives such as Green Flag.

The role also includes assisting with volunteer groups, community projects and events, while maintaining accurate inspection records, reports and equipment inventories using council systems.
