Supporting businesses and making a difference to the lives of those involved in the local economy makes a huge impact on the community, do you want to make that difference in Castle Point?

This position focuses on supporting local businesses, strengthening the local economy, and contributing to the wellbeing of the Castle Point community. The Council is looking for someone who can make a meaningful impact by helping businesses grow, overcome challenges, and access opportunities.

The postholder will help drive the borough’s Economic Development, Visitor Economy and Culture ambitions by supporting the delivery of key strategies and projects. They will work directly with local businesses—particularly across Canvey Island and Hadleigh—providing proactive advice, support and signposting to encourage growth. The role involves managing and contributing to economic development projects, representing the Council with external partners, supporting inward investment enquiries, and helping to shape strategic documents and reports. The postholder will also lead on creating engaging communications for the Economic Development team and assist in organising events that promote business support, skills and employment, alongside completing essential administrative tasks.

MAIN PURPOSE

  • To deliver on the Economic Development Strategy, Visitor Economy and Culture Strategies, and aspirations of Castle Point Borough Council.
  • To provide professional economic development advice, guidance and expertise.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assist with implementing the Council’s Economic Development Strategies and associated action plans to target growth within the borough
  • To proactively visit, deliver advice, support and signposting services to local businesses, including in response to specific requests and needs.
  • Proactively engage with businesses across the borough, prioritising Canvey Island and Hadleigh, visiting and meeting them to provide impartial and confidential support in support of their growth.
  • To support and, where appropriate to grade, lead on the delivery and management of identified and agreed Economic Development projects, including project development and feasibility work
  • To deputise for the Senior Economic Development Officer as the councils’ key point of contact for external organisations such as Essex County Council, business support providers and business representatives
  • To facilitate events in and around the promotion of economic development, business support, skills, training and employment
  • To contribute to the drafting of key strategic economic development and regeneration documents, monitoring reports and policies
  • To support the handling of responses to inward investment enquiries
  • To create and maintain communications content for the Economic Development team, including newsletters, websites, social media, posters, brochures and other media
  • To complete necessary administrative tasks required to deliver the work of the Economic Development team

We are looking for somebody who:

  • Is highly organised and proactive.
  • Is experienced in economic development or business support.
  • Has strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • With the ability to work collaboratively within a team culture.
  • Can represent businesses with confidence and professionalism.

Previous practical experience of economic development is essential along with experience of engaging with and providing support to businesses and staff on a face to face basis.

 Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant technical/ business discipline or equivalent level of experience? 

A current valid full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes is desirable
