The Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Corporate Performance Co-ordinator to join our Performance and Improvement Team at Braintree District Council on a fixed term contract until February 2028. This role is crucial in supporting the Council’s business planning process and reporting out on the Council’s progress against key priorities and achievements through the analysis of service performance information.

Moreover, it acts as a critical friend, offering challenge and support to enhance services' efficiency and performance. The role also involves understanding data insights, the determining factors that affect performance and help shape strategy.

As part of the performance reporting, you will be required to attend scrutiny committee meetings to present quarterly performance reports to members.

You will also play a key part in supporting the Council to embed the requirements of the Local Outcomes Framework, helping to ensure that performance information is aligned to local priorities and insight is used to drive better decision‑making.

Job Accountabilities

  • To lead on the corporate quarterly performance management reporting process, supporting the Council to demonstrate its performance in achieving objectives and targets in line with our corporate priorities.
  • To lead on the monitoring and analysis of project and performance information presenting findings to a variety of audiences (colleagues, senior managers, members). This includes attending evening meetings to present to Corporate Scrutiny Committee.
  • To support the business planning process including providing advice and guidance to managers in the development of their service business plans
  • To collaborate with service directorates to define key performance indicators (KPI’s) and outcomes which align with our corporate priorities.
  • To support the implementation of the Local Outcomes Framework performance reporting requirements.
  • To provide advice and guidance to services on factors that drive, impact or affect performance ensuring governance functions are adhered to.
  • To challenge areas of poor performance and utilise data to highlight areas where there is scope for improvement.
  • To manage and develop the corporate performance management system and supporting processes embedding the use of the system across the Council.
  • To ensure the quality of performance information is sound and can be used to make accurate and timely decisions.
  • To undertake complex data analysis to enable understanding of what data insights are indicating may be affecting performance.
  • To develop internal partnerships to maximise efficient use of resources in order to provide cost effective service delivery.
  • Attend network meetings to share best practice and identify sharing or commercial opportunities.

Experience: We are looking for a proactive, highly organised individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with people at all levels of the organisation. You will be confident and people‑focused, with a genuine passion for supporting others, and ideally have experience of working within a local authority.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent analytical skills, working across a wide range of data and information, with the ability to present complex information both verbally and in written format in an innovative and engaging way, operating within tight timeframes and working well as part of a team as well as on your own.
