Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Castle Point Borough Council to recruit an Environmental Officer on a part-time, temporary basis.
Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will be required to work on-site only.

The Opportunity
Required for two days per week, the Environmental Officer will need to be able to undertake routine inspections such as Safety Culture inspections and to ensure the provision of high-quality Council-owned land and facilities which are safe to use.
Accountabilities
- To be responsible for the day to day operation of Council owned parks, open spaces, recreational facilities, cemeteries and car parks and for the facilities contained therein.
- To open and close facilities as required and to undertake general horticultural duties/minor repairs as required from time to time
- To undertake programmed inspection & equipment audits, deal with defects in accordance with departmental procedures and assist in the preparation of budget bids for the maintenance and development of facilities
- To respond to emergency call outs both inside and outside of normal working hours and to initiate such action as is necessary to secure/protect Council owned facilities and to ensure the health and safety of users/visitors to the facilities.
- To undertake regular patrols of the parks, open spaces, woodlands, car parks, etc and associated facilities in order to ensure the health and safety of users and other Council staff/volunteers and to reduce the incidence of anti-social behaviour, undertaking corrective and enforcement action where necessary
- To liaise with Essex Police and other emergency services when appropriate
The Experience You Will Bring
- Able to work on their own

- Full UK Driving Licence
- Experience in operating and maintaining open spaces and associated facilities, including programmed inspections and equipment audits
- Experience of working with community groups.
- Knowledge of and experience in horticultural activities.
- Knowledge of and experience in enforcing relevant legislation.
