Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Maldon District Council to recruit a Planning Enforcement Officer on an initial 3-month temporary basis. Please note that this requires on site presence a minimum of 2 days per week.
Key Accountabilities
We are looking for a Planning Enforcement Officer to focus on case investigation of potential breaches of planning control, producing formal notices, associated reports and dealing with Enforcement Appeals; in order to ensure a high quality built and natural environment in Maldon District can be maintained. Working with and supporting the Enforcement Manager and our other Enforcement Officers to carry out sites visits, attend/support essential training and attend appeals and court proceedings pertaining to your assigned caseload, you can otherwise choose to work hybridly, supported by regular meetings with the Planning Enforcement and Legal teams. You will need to liaise with members of the public, supporting authorities and elected officials electronically and in person, while providing support/mentoring to junior members of the Team, as required and in line with Managerial direction.
The Experience You Will Bring
- Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in dealing with people
- Proven ability to give sound planning enforcement advice and guidance
- Excellent ability to reason, process information, be curious, ask questions and analyse potential outcomes to make timely and effective decisions
- The ability to work independently, but as part of a high performing team
- Excellent organisational skills
- Tenacity and a problem-solving mindset; and the ability to adapt to change and use initiative
- Proven ability to mentor and provide support to junior Team member
