This is a fantastic opportunity for a flexible and versatile Democratic Services Officer to take up an important role within our Democratic & Electoral Services Team.

The Section is undergoing its biggest period of change for a number of years, and this is a great opportunity to help shape the service provision for the future.

Working with us

We’re a small, but hard-working team of friendly professionals with a range of skills and experience in the Democratic Services and Electoral Services arenas.

Our work is diverse and broad in subject matter, and we deal with other Officers of the Council, Politicians, and members of the public.

Your role

You will work in our Democratic Services Section, playing a key role in supporting the Council’s Committees and Governance procedures.

You will be expected to provide agenda management and secretarial support for meetings of the Council’s Committees, provide constitutional advice to Officers, as well as Councillors and other stakeholders, and liaise with senior Officers and Members in managing the work programmes for your committees.

Most of our Committee meetings start at 7pm in the evening, which will involve some working outside of normal office hours.

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate is a competent administrator, preferably with Local Government experience, but who can also liaise with our residents and Officers – at all levels of seniority.

We need a Team Player that is also capable and confident enough to work on their own initiative when the need arises.

Training will be given in the Council’s Committee Management system (Modern.Gov) if required, but a good basic working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programmes is expected.

Any previous experience of working in a committee environment would be beneficial.

In addition, you will be expected to adhere to the Council’s agreed values and behaviours of Trust, One Team, Performance, Innovation and Customer; and to work collaboratively across the organisation to bring about change and improvements to service delivery.
