Are you passionate about protecting public health, supporting sustainable development and improving the local environment? We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced contaminated land professional to lead the delivery of contaminated land services across Epping Forest District Council and neighbouring Harlow Council.

As the lead specialist, you will provide expert advice on land contamination, environmental risk management and redevelopment. You will assess technical reports, advise planning officers and developers and ensure risks to human health, controlled waters, property and the environment are appropriately managed through the planning process.

You will lead the implementation of Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, undertake contaminated land investigations and risk assessments, review and update Contaminated Land Strategies and oversee enforcement activities where required.

The role also includes maintaining contaminated land records and GIS datasets and ensuring both authorities meet their statutory environmental protection duties.

We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced professional with strong technical knowledge of contaminated land legislation, excellent communication skills and the ability to manage a varied workload across two organisations.

It is essential that you can effectively communicate in written and oral form with members of the public and on occasion manage difficult situations. The job requires that you hold a current full driving licence and have access to a car for use at all times during working hours.
