About the Role

Join Our Highway Rangers Team

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our dedicated Highway Rangers team.

As a Ranger, you will work across the district on a wide range of projects, helping to enhance the local environment and make the area a better, safer place to live, work, and visit. This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same.

You will collaborate closely with other Epping Forest District Council teams, as well as parish and town councils, contributing to meaningful improvements within the community.

We are committed to supporting your development, offering opportunities for relevant training and continuous professional growth throughout your career.

Key Responsibilities

Highway Rangers undertake a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Carrying out soft estate management duties, such as grass cutting, strimming, and hedge trimming
  • Delivering minor civil works, including replacing paving slabs, carrying out block paving repairs, and installing or replacing street name plates
  • Removing illegal signage, flyposting, and graffiti to maintain the appearance of the local area
  • Cleaning, repairing, and replacing street furniture
  • Ensuring the safety of yourself, your colleagues, and the public at all times while working

About You

We are looking for someone who can work effectively both as part of a team and independently.

You will bring honesty, professionalism, flexibility, and strong self-motivation to the role—qualities we value highly in our team members.

A New Roads and Street Works qualification would be advantageous, along with knowledge of construction and grounds maintenance.

A full driving licence is essential.

The Council operates to the standards of the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and applicants are advised that this post is subject to a Basic check.

Working Arrangements

  • Working hours: 7:00am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday
  • Annual leave: 28 days, plus bank holidays
  • Based at our Town Mead Depot in Waltham Abbey
