Internal Audit Manager

Are you an experienced internal auditor ready to lead a high-performing team recognised for the impact and value it delivers? Join Enfield Council and play a key role in strengthening governance, risk management and internal control across the organisation.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Internal Audit, you’ll take day-to-day operational responsibility for managing, supporting and motivating a skilled team of internal auditors. You’ll lead the delivery of a varied audit plan and work closely with stakeholders across all Council departments, schools, partner organisations and commercial ventures.

  • Lead and quality-assure audit work from planning through to reporting, ensuring recommendations are practical and add value.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with senior leaders and service managers to support improvement and assurance.
  • Monitor delivery against deadlines and budgets, balancing competing priorities and emerging risks.
  • Support the Head of Internal Audit and deputise as required.

About you

You’ll bring a strong audit background and hold a relevant professional qualification (CCAB, CMIIA, CIA, QIAL or equivalent). You’ll be committed to internal audit standards and best practice—ideally with an understanding of the local authority environment—and confident managing a complex workload with competing priorities.

  • A collaborative leadership style, with the ability to coach, develop and inspire others.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the credibility to influence at all levels and challenge constructively.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, senior leaders and external partners.
  • Strong judgement, curiosity and attention to detail, with a focus on delivering clear, evidence-based assurance.

What we offer

We offer a hybrid working model, with a minimum of two days per week based at Council premises.

Local authority experience is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate how their skills and experience will bring value to Enfield Council.

If you’re curious, solutions-focused and a confident communicator—with the experience and vision to lead—we’d love to hear from you.
