Ealing Council has an exciting new opportunity for a Business & Finance Support Officer within Environment & Community Protection.

Environment & Community Protection brings together a range of frontline and regulatory services that make a direct contribution to the quality of life of Ealing's residents. We are looking for a practical, organised and financially skilled person who can provide hands-on financial support to the senior managers responsible for these services.

This is a hands-on finance role, providing dedicated financial administrative and operational support to our Assistant Director and Heads of Service and budget holders.

You will take responsibility for supporting the management team with detailed day-to-day financial processing and monitoring which sits behind effective service management, ensuring that transactions, records and financial information are accurate, timely and well controlled.

As the Business & Finance Support Officer you will:

  • undertake day-to-day financial processing, including raising purchase orders, goods receipting and processing invoices;
  • raise debtor invoices and support the monitoring and reconciliation of income;
  • identify miscoding and prepare and post journals, corrections and recharges;
  • prepare salary, budget monitoring and other financial information;
  • support budget setting, budget monitoring and year-end accounts processes;
  • prepare financial schedules, working papers and accrual information;
  • maintain accurate financial records and support the reconciliation of accounts;
  • support the administration and monitoring of grants and other externally funded activity; and 
  • work collaboratively with budget holders and Finance colleagues to ensure financial information and processes are accurate and completed to required deadlines.

Our ideal Business & Finance Support Officer will have the following skills and experience:

  • experience of working within a local government or public sector finance environment;
  • practical experience of budget monitoring and financial administration;
  • experience of purchase orders, invoice processing and raising invoices;
  • experience of using financial management system software and fluency using Microsoft Excel;
  • excellent accuracy and attention to detail;
  • the ability to organise and prioritise a varied workload and meet financial deadlines;
  • good communication skills and the ability to work confidently with operational managers, budget holders and finance professionals;
  • educated to a minimum of five GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths and English; and
  • a specialist financial certificate or professional qualification would be desirable.
