Senior Transport Planner (Development)

Ealing Council

Ealing, London£49,056 to £51,138Closes: 2026-07-10T22:59:59Z

Ealing Council has published an ambitious Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy, and we are working on a new Transport Strategy. Supporting active and sustainable travel is a key goal, with our work focusing on cycling, walking, public transport and electric vehicles.

To support these goals, we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to ensure that new developments are designed and built in accordance with our transport and placemaking objectives, and that developers share our vision to make the borough greener, safer and healthier for our residents and visitors. As part of Ealing’s award-winning Transport Planning team, you will assess the transport and placemaking impacts of new developments, ensuring that all proposals support our transport strategy and our values.

You will provide expert transport advice on applications for planning permission, working closely with our Planning, Housing Development, Urban Design and Regeneration teams to promote active and sustainable travel in all new developments. The Transport team is consulted on a wide range of developments, ranging from large-scale proposals which require significant transport improvements. You will have the opportunity to become involved in a full range of proposals and to contribute to our ambitious placemaking objectives.

We are looking for someone organised and self-motivated, with knowledge and experience of the planning system, reviewing transport assessments and travel plans, negotiating with developers, and securing positive outcomes. You will have a keen interest in sustainable transport. You will have either a relevant degree (environmental studies, transport planning, or a related discipline) or equivalent experience.

It's an exciting time to join Ealing. We are the third largest London borough by population, with many diverse communities and seven key town centres. We have ambitious plans to tackle the climate crisis, create good jobs, and fight inequality. We are involved in major transport projects such as High Speed 2, Heathrow Airport surface access, and large-scale new developments in Old Oak Common and Southall. The Transport Planning team is delivering key projects including EV charging, bike hangars, School Streets, micromobility, cargo bike schemes and strategic transport improvements, and we’d love you to join us.

This role will work on a hybrid basis with the rest of the Transport Planning team, with time split between the office in Ealing Broadway and remote working. We offer training opportunities and flexible working.

Don’t meet every single requirement? We know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they think they can’t tick every box. So, if you can do most of what we’re looking for, go ahead and apply. You may be just the right candidate for the job!

You must have the right to work in the UK.  Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.

It is an exciting time to join us, here at Ealing Council. If you would like to make a positive difference to our residents and borough, then we’re looking forward to hearing from you.

We’ve tried to make this website as accessible as possible. You can use the accessibility widget on the right hand side to make it more accessible to you and your needs.

Please note all applications will be determined on merit.

This role is subject to Ealing Council’s enhanced vetting process.

Closing date: Friday 10 July 2026.
