The Role & Responsibilities 

We are looking for two motivated and enthusiastic Accounting Technicians to join our Finance Team and support the delivery of high-quality financial services across the Council. 

These are excellent opportunities for finance professionals looking to develop their careers within a supportive environment while contributing to the Council's strategic priorities, transformation programmes and capital investment plans. 

Accounting Technician (Technical) 

This role will provide financial support, analysis and guidance for the Council's strategic projects, transformation programmes and corporate initiatives, including local government reform. 

You will support financial planning, monitoring and reporting for project budgets and grants, contribute to the production of the Statement of Accounts and Medium-Term Financial Plan, maintain the Fixed Asset Register, lead on audit enquiries and support statutory reporting and financial governance activities. 

Accounting Technician (Projects) 

This role will support the Capital and Special Revenue elements of the Medium-Term Financial Plan through the production of project and funding schedules, financial monitoring and reporting. 

Working closely with budget managers and project leads, you will provide financial support, guidance and constructive challenge, helping to ensure effective management of capital resources and project funding. You will also support budget setting, reconciliation activities and year-end processes. 

Who We Are Looking For 

We’re looking for someone who is highly organised with an eye for detail and accuracy.   

You do not need to tick every box, if you have strong analytical skills and enjoy working with financial systems, we want to hear from you.   

 You’ll bring:   

  • Experience in a finance or accounting role 
  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with great attention to detail 
  • Excellent organisation skills and ability to deliver business objectives whilst successfully managing pressures arising from competing demands deadlines and priorities, and with minimal supervision   
  • Clear communication skills, especially when supporting colleagues who aren’t finance specialists   
  • Effective problem-solving skills, including dealing with complex issues.    
  • A positive, teamfocused approach and a willingness to learn   

Qualifications 

  • Minimum 5 GCSE (or equivalent) including Maths and English.  (essential) 
  • AAT qualified or part-qualified, or equivalent (desirable)
