The role and responsibilities: 

Our Housing Needs team provides advice, support and help to families and individuals facing problems with their housing. We help explore options so that people can find suitable, secure and good quality accommodation for the future. An important part of our work is with landlords and other agencies to prevent families becoming homeless and to ensure that support is available to vulnerable people at risk of becoming homeless. 

Who are we looking for? 

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate: 

  • Experience of working with members of the public 
  • Good customer care and interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written 
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload and use own initiative 
  • Ability to work calmly and accurately under pressure 
  • Ability to build excellent relationships and working partnerships both in the Council and externally with partner organisations 
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation  
  • Ability to work in a team and develop effective and supportive relationships with colleagues 

You’ll have English and Maths Grade C or above, GCSE 4-9 or equivalent and if you have an understanding of local government housing options services and the welfare benefit system, that would be a bonus. 

Due to the nature of this role the successful applicant will be required to undertake a DBS check as part of their pre-employment clearances. 

You will need a current full driving licence effective in the UK and use of a motor vehicle for business use, or the ability to get to locations in a timely manner equivalent to motor travel in your own vehicle.
