The Role & Responsibilities:  

We're looking for a Principal Registered Building Inspector to work within our Building Control team. You will act in a senior capacity, undertaking the full range of Building Control activities, providing a comprehensive range of professional services predominantly within a geographical area of our district.  
 
As well as plan checking and carrying out site inspections, the role includes mentoring and supervising staff in accordance with the Building Safety Regulator requirements. Depending on your Registered Building Inspector class, you will also take the lead in dealing with the more complex Building Regulation applications we receive.  You also will be responsible for enforcement activities and dangerous structures inspections. 

Who We Are Looking For 

As a Principal Registered Building Inspector, you bring substantial experience in delivering and supervising building control services, underpinned by a strong understanding of buildings within the scope of the Building Safety Regulator. You are a confident, collaborative professional who can effectively manage your own workload, drive quality and influence positive outcomes across a range of stakeholders. 

 You will bring: 
 

  • Registered with the Building Safety Regulator (minimum Class 2F)  
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS, CABE, or CIOB 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Building Regulations and legislation relating to construction.   
  • Advanced knowledge of construction techniques, building materials and industry products & systems. 
  • Ability to influence, persuade and generate understanding and acceptance based on technical knowledge.  
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.  
  • Confidence to liaise and build effective relationships.  
  • Good level of IT skills, including MS Office.  
  • Organisational skills to enable workload prioritisation and meeting deadlines whilst working under pressure.  
  • Ability to visit premises, construction sites and undertake inspections as required by this role.  
  • Ability to work positively with other people 
  • Experience of working with clients and stakeholders in a construction-based environment.   
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner to a range of audiences and to promote a positive professional service to our customers    
  • Demonstrable experience of carrying out investigative work in a construction / development related field.  
  • Significant experience of the Building Control function and the wider construction industry 

This role requires current full driving license effective in the UK and use of a motor vehicle for business use, or the ability to get to sites in a timely manner equivalent to motor travel in your own car.
