The iconic Dover castle, the spectacular White Cliffs country, Sandwich - perhaps the most complete medieval market town in Britain - and the flourishing seaside resort of Deal, all surrounded by the garden of England, are just some of the great reasons for you to choose Dover.

Why Join Us?

If you’re an experienced tradesperson looking for stable, varied work, sensible hours and the chance to use your skills on meaningful projects in the local community, this role offers exactly that.

You’ll work on a diverse range of council-owned buildings, parks and public spaces – from historic locations to community facilities – with your work directly supporting the people who live and work in the district. No two days are the same, and your expertise will be genuinely valued.

About The Role

Working within the Property Assets team, you’ll carry out a wide range of response, cyclical and programmed maintenance works across the district.

Reporting to the Senior Multi‑Skilled Tradesperson, you’ll be trusted to use your experience to diagnose issues, recommend solutions and complete high‑quality repairs.

This is a hands‑on, varied role that suits someone who enjoys practical problem‑solving, working independently, and taking pride in maintaining buildings and environments to a high standard.

Typical duties include:

  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs and maintenance across council properties, parks and land
  • Undertaking a variety of work across different trades, including general building maintenance and groundworks
  • Selecting appropriate methods, materials and equipment to complete repairs safely and effectively
  • Ordering materials, recording works completed and inputting information into asset management systems
  • Supporting occasional civic duties, such as opening and closing offices or preparing meeting spaces, as part of a wider team effort

What We’re Looking For:

Essential:

  • A recognised qualification (e.g. City & Guilds, NVQ) in at least one traditional building trade, such as carpentry, plumbing, plastering, bricklaying, or painting and decorating
  • Significant practical experience in building maintenance or a similar environment
  • A good working knowledge of health and safety requirements
  • Current and full UK driving licence (Category B)
  • The ability to work independently, manage your own workload and communicate effectively with colleagues and members of the public

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a public sector or similar environment
  • Experience across multiple trades
  • Basic administrative or IT skills related to maintenance or asset management systems

What We Offer:

We can provide a friendly and supportive environment for you to excel in. We also offer several employee benefits, subject to eligibility criteria, such as:

  • Local Government Pension Scheme, with options to make additional voluntary contributions
  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Benenden Healthcare membership and access to an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Salary Sacrifice Car Scheme (eligibility criteria applies)
  • Cycle to Work scheme (eligibility criteria applies)
  • Discounted membership at local leisure centres
  • Free on‑site parking
  • A stable role with regular hours and local travel only

Due to the nature of this role, the successful applicant will be required to undertake a Basic DBS check as part of their pre-employment clearances.

A current full driving licence effective in the UK (Category B) is also essential for this role.
