Salary range: Grade 7 £38,256 - £39,276 p.a. plus fantastic benefits

Hours of work: 36 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise cleansing and grounds maintenance operatives across allocated sites, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation.
  • Oversee daily operations including litter collection, bin emptying, sweeping, grass cutting, hedge trimming, planting, and seasonal maintenance.
  • Allocate work, monitor performance, and provide on-site guidance and support to team members.
  • Ensure the safe use, maintenance, and reporting of tools, vehicles, and equipment, addressing defects promptly.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks, identifying issues and implementing solutions to maintain service excellence.
  • Support and coordinate seasonal duties, including leaf-clearance programmes and winter gritting operations.
  • Build constructive working relationships with colleagues, residents, contractors, and partner services to enhance the borough’s outdoor environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, health and safety compliance, and staff attendance.

About You

  • Experience in grounds maintenance, cleansing, or horticulture, with previous supervisory or team-leading responsibility.
  • Confident working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to motivate and support a diverse workforce.
  • Reliable, proactive, and committed to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Able to work independently, use initiative, and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • A positive attitude and a commitment to maintaining high standards for Croydon’s green and public spaces.
