Education Governance Officer, Clerking Service

Education Governance delivers a high quality clerking service to schools and their Governing Boards, supporting effective governance and strong educational outcomes for children and young people. We are expanding our established clerking service and are seeking to appoint an Education Governance Officer on an annualised contract, equivalent to 0.6 FTE, three days per week. The post is available to start as soon as possible.

We are looking for a confident and proactive individual who is comfortable working in complex and sometimes challenging situations. The role sits within a busy and well established service and requires someone who is organised, resilient and able to work with a high degree of autonomy. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, alongside effective time management, prioritisation and the ability to support governing boards to work well and achieve results.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate the following:

  • A sound and up to date knowledge of education and governance legislation.

  • Substantial experience of clerking within maintained schools, single academy trusts and multi academy trusts.

  • Proven experience of building and sustaining effective working relationships with a wide and diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Experience of implementing monitoring and evaluation processes within a governance or education setting.

  • Strong administrative skills, including the preparation of agendas, accurate minute taking, timely production of papers and the organisation and maintenance of governing board documentation.

The postholder will act as the named clerk to a number of Governing Boards and will also support Governor Panel work. As the workload is driven by service demand, a flexible approach to working hours is required, including occasional evening commitments.
