We have an exciting opportunity for a part-time, permanent Council Tax Case Worker to join our Council Tax team. This role plays an important part in supporting the collection of Council Tax and helping to maximise the Council's income, which is essential for funding local services. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who thrives in a busy environment and is keen to contribute to a high-performing team that consistently works towards ambitious targets.

Each year, the Council collects millions of pounds in Council Tax revenue, which helps fund vital services for our residents. As part of this dynamic team, you will handle a variety of customer enquiries, undertake back-office administration, and contribute to projects and initiatives designed to improve processes and service delivery.

The role requires the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. You will deal with customer enquiries in a helpful, empathetic and solution-focused manner. The successful candidate will be confident in negotiating payment arrangements and conducting challenging conversations, while also recognising when customers may be vulnerable or require additional support. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Duties of the role

As a key member of the Council Tax team, you will play an important role in collecting Council Tax, delivering excellent customer service, and resolving customer queries efficiently at the first point of contact.

This role requires a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check as the  will access sensitive information using a Public Services Network (PSN).

Qualifications and skills required

We expect you to have:

  • Educated to A-level standard or able to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge of Council Tax administration and/or significant relevant experience in a Council Tax environment.

We also hope you have:

  • Experience of working directly with customers in a service-focused environment
  • Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • A proven ability to meet individual and team performance targets.
