We are seeking an outstanding individual to take up the post of Scenic Construction Lecturer.

You will be responsible for teaching Stage and Scenic Construction, involving set building working with a range of materials and processes, the design and construction of scenic items, the use of specialist equipment and technology, and workshop management. You will supervise students undertaking production and project work and overseeing safe working practices. You will have extensive industry experience that demonstrates continued high standing in the profession. You will also contribute to wider teaching, tutoring and assessment activities in the department. You will have experience of working in higher education settings; a good understanding of the needs of students in a complex learning environment; and the ability to represent your discipline in the public domain through professional/industry sector engagement, consultancy, and/or research (which could include R&D in new processes and equipment).

The Scenic Construction Lecturer works predominantly in the Design Realisation Pathway, which includes Prop-Making, Scenic Art, and Scenic Construction. The Production and Design Department is responsible for BA Production Arts, BA Performance Design and MA Collaborative Theatre Production and Design; a series of short courses and outreach activities; and extensive production activity in the School’s programme of public-facing performances and events. We work closely on a range of productions (including operas, dramas, site-specific and digital works) with other departments at Guildhall and (through Guildhall Production Studios) a range of external and commercial partners. Our students learn through workshop-based activities, study and intensive production and practice. They have opportunities to extend their knowledge by working on pathways other than their major area of study, and to develop their own interests and creative agency through independent projects. The Department is values-led and promotes diversity and inclusivity along with sustainable practices.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing teaching in your area of specialism. You will be organised, able to meet deadlines and manage your own workload. You will have up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety and a commitment to promoting safe working and inclusive practices.
