Chelmsford City Council

Chelmsford, Essex£26,001 to £27,042 per annum, pro rata22.2Closes: 2026-11-02

Chelmsford City Council are looking to bring in a Marketing Assistant to join our Theatre and Arts team. This is an entry-level part-time (3 days) role, providing a fantastic opportunity for those interested in launching a career in marketing. If you are an individual who is eager to learn new skills, make a meaningful impact and be part of a successful and collaborative centralised marketing team, we encourage you to apply.

We are looking for an individual who is interested in storytelling and engaging with theatre and arts, in addition to having a love of marketing. The successful applicant will be assisting in major promotional campaigns for Chelmsford Theatre that are focused on driving income and raising awareness. This includes promoting new shows and memberships, helping increase secondary spend in theatre café and bar, as well as promoting our outreach and community programmes. It means applicants will need to be able to manage working on multiple tasks simultaneously and work effectively to deadlines.

We’re looking for someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an eye for detail. The post holder will be involved in helping us with administrative tasks, updating copy on our web pages and online listings, and researching ideas for social media content. We are very data driven in our decision making, so the role will also involve maintaining spreadsheets and schedules.

The Marketing Assistant helps to create posters, digital screen ads and social media posts to support our campaigns. This means we want applicants who have some experience in creating engaging and accessible artwork using design software such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite. The post holder will also be working alongside others in our team in creating and editing video content that’s filmed on mobile and other devices. These will be used across our socials, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn, so you’ll need to be able to demonstrate your experience in doing this.

The successful candidate will be someone with a positive, proactive, and “can-do” attitude, with behaviours that reflect both the council and theatre’s values. Some evening and weekend work is required depending on planned events.

Please note should sufficient applications be received prior to the closing date, we may close the role for applications early.

Chelmsford City Council is committed to safeguarding vulnerable groups and expects all employees to share this commitment and have a range of policies and procedures in place which promote safeguarding and safer working practices across our services. The Council's Safer Recruitment process contains pre-employment checks which includes safeguarding training, obtaining references and ensuring compliance with Disclosure and Barring Service process.
