The Community Sport and Wellbeing Team at Chelmsford City Council is looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated person to assist with the organisation and delivery of the Play in the Park programme during the summer of 2026. The role will be fixed term from 13th July to 28th August 2026.

The successful applicant will also assist with the delivery of a range of community based activities and sports sessions to increase the physical activity levels of children and adults.

The post holder will have an office base and will initially liaise with companies and organisations delivering activities as well as the Playworkers and other staff within the Community Sport and Wellbeing Team. Once delivery starts much of the post holder’s time will be spent helping with the delivery of activities and taking equipment to various venues. Applicants must be able to drive a transit size van which will be provided and may also be required to act as a Senior Playworker or Playworker organising and running play sessions and supervising other staff.

Other duties will include general marketing and promotion of the various projects, engaging with participants and partner organisations by email, phone and social media, as well as some other associated administrative tasks. Applicants should have experience of working as a coach/leader and ideally have some supervisory experience.

You may be asked to work anytime during the week when activity sessions are running and this may include evening and weekend work.

A practical assessment day for this role is scheduled for Wednesday 27th May 2026 with interviews being held on: Thursday 28th May 2026 & Friday 29th May 2026
