Marketing Officer (Sports and Leisure)
Chelmsford City Council
Chelmsford City Council have a fantastic marketing opportunity focused on delivering income-generating promotional campaigns focused on health, wellbeing, fitness and sport for our four leisure centres: Riverside Leisure Centre, Chelmsford Sport & Athletics Centre, Dovedale Leisure Centre and South Woodham Ferrers Leisure Centre. If you have experience delivering paid and organic digital marketing campaigns based on analysis of performance data and are looking to further develop your expertise in a fast-paced commercial environment, this could be the role for you.
This role will involve delivering impactful, data-led campaigns that drive memberships, activity and course bookings, as well as participation across our leisure centres. A key part of the role is creating, managing and optimising paid digital advertising campaigns across social media, email, website and our app to maximise reach, engagement, conversions and return on investment. These campaigns are run simultaneously with tight deadlines and challenging commercial and community targets, aimed at reaching different audiences.
We're particularly interested in applicants who have hands-on experience managing paid social media advertising using Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads and analytics platforms such as Meta Business Suite and Google Analytics for targeting audiences, segmentation and campaign optimisation to deliver measurable business results. The successful applicant will be responsible for creating effectiveness reports that assess how your campaigns have met and delivered against objectives and targets, as well as recommend where future improvements could be made.
We're looking for someone who combines strong digital marketing expertise with creative content creation skills. The role includes creating engaging visual content through photography and short-form video, so confidence using mobile devices and editing software, as well as an understanding of GDPR and accessibility, for marketing campaigns is important. We’re looking for someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an eye for detail. Experience in design, copywriting, SEO, user experience and campaign testing is also key. The ideal candidate will have a positive and “can-do” attitude who can thrive in a collaborative environment and be proactive by taking initiative.
This role is advertised as 37 hours per week. Flexibility is required as there will be some evening and weekend work depending on planned events. The post holder will work between the Civic Centre and our four leisure centres as required.
Interviews are currently scheduled for the week commencing 23 November 2026.
Please note should sufficient applications be received prior to the closing date, we may close the role for applications early.
