Help Shape the Future of Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay

Join one of three new Place Panels for our city and town centres

Canterbury City Council is seeking passionate, forward-thinking individuals to become members of new Place Panels for Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay.

This is a unique opportunity to play a meaningful role in shaping the future of the places you care about most.

Why Become a Place Panel Member?

The new Place Panels will bring together influential voices from across the district to help champion the long-term visions for Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay.

As a Panel member, you will:

  • Help shape the future direction of your place.
  • Act as an ambassador and champion for your community.
  • Work alongside senior leaders from business, culture, education, community organisations and the public sector.
  • Support the delivery of ambitious city and town centre strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for investment, regeneration and growth.

A Chance to Make a Lasting Difference

The Place Panels are more than discussion groups.

They will provide strategic leadership, foster partnership working and help maintain momentum behind the delivery of long-term plans for Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay.

Like a school governor, charity trustee or independent board member, this voluntary role offers the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the place you care about by influencing its priorities and identifying new opportunities to make positive changes.

Who Should Apply?

We are keen to hear from people with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, including:

  • Business people, entrepreneurs and business activators (i.e. people that can mobilise and inspire other businesses);
  • Community leaders and volunteers;
  • Cultural and creative sector representatives;
  • Heritage, tourism and hospitality professionals;
  • Regeneration and place-making specialists; and
  • Young professionals and emerging leaders.

You don't need previous board experience. What matters most is your commitment to your chosen place, your ability to think strategically and your willingness to work with others in the wider interests of the community.

What's Involved?

  • Normally two panel meetings each year plus a joint session between the three panels.
  • Occasional workshops, working groups and engagement activities.
  • Initial three-year appointment.
  • Voluntary and unpaid role.
