Canterbury City Council are looking for a new Contracts Officer to join their contracts team.

Supporting the effective management of externally commissioned contracts across the council.

You will be responsible for supporting the management of a portfolio of contracts, working closely with service areas and contractors to ensure performance targets are met, value for money is achieved, and services are delivered in line with legal and regulatory requirements. The role involves monitoring contract performance, supporting procurement activity, and helping drive continuous improvement across council services.

You will have experience of contract management or procurement within a public sector or regulated environment, the ability to manage relationships with suppliers and stakeholders, and a good working knowledge of procurement rules and governance.

The working pattern:

  • Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays.
  • 37 hours per week.
  • Permanent contract.

About you, the ideal finance professional for the job:

We are looking for a proactive and organised professional with experience of contract management or procurement in a public sector or regulated environment. You will be confident managing relationships with contractors and internal stakeholders, able to monitor performance, challenge where necessary, and ensure services deliver value for money and meet contractual and legal requirements. You will have a good understanding of governance and procurement rules, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and accountability. Most importantly, you will be collaborative, solutions‑focused, and committed to delivering high‑quality services for residents.
