Social Worker Looked After Children's Team
Bury Council
Children's Social Worker (Looked After Children)
Join Team Bury and help us deliver our "Let's Do It for Children" vision.
At Bury, we're ambitious for our children and young people, and we're equally ambitious about creating the right environment for social workers to do their best work.
We are looking for two experienced Social Workers to join our Care and Support Service, working with children and young people who are looked after by the local authority. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team that is stable, well-supported and committed to achieving the very best outcomes for children and young people.
Our most recent Ofsted inspection recognised the significant progress made across Children's Services, with the impact of leaders on social work practice with children and families judged to be Good. Inspectors highlighted the work undertaken to address recruitment, retention and caseload pressures, recognising that these efforts have helped to stabilise the workforce and improve the quality of practice.
Importantly, Ofsted also found that:
"Staff told inspectors that there has been a positive change in culture."
We know that social workers are looking for more than just a job. They want manageable caseloads, supportive managers, opportunities to develop, flexibility and the time to build meaningful relationships with children and young people. That's exactly what we're working hard to provide.
As part of our Care and Support Service, you will work with children and young people living in foster care, residential care and other placements. You will build strong relationships with children, carers and families, ensuring that children's voices are central to planning and decision-making. You will play a key role in promoting permanence, stability and positive outcomes, supporting children to achieve their full potential and, where appropriate, undertaking reunification work and helping children maintain important family relationships.
You'll be joining a service that benefits from a permanent and experienced management team, alongside a strong group of Advanced Practitioners who are invested in supporting colleagues and developing excellent practice. Together, they create a supportive environment where social workers receive high-quality supervision, accessible practice support and opportunities to develop and progress in their careers.
Our teams are based at 3 Knowsley Place, a modern office in the heart of Bury town centre. The office environment promotes collaboration, learning and peer support, giving social workers easy access to colleagues, managers and partner agencies. We also recognise the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance and offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements, alongside support with parking for staff attending the office.
As a smaller authority, relationships matter. You'll quickly get to know colleagues across the service, have access to visible and approachable leaders, and be part of a workforce that is committed to continuous improvement and delivering the very best services for children and young people.
We are keen to hear from qualified and experienced Social Workers who are passionate about improving outcomes for looked after children and young people. You'll be registered with Social Work England, committed to relationship-based and strengths-based practice, and motivated by the opportunity to make a lasting difference to children's lives.
In return, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including reimbursement of Social Work England registration fees (subject to conditions), annual pay progression linked to development, generous annual leave entitlement, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, access to a wide range of learning and development opportunities, employee wellbeing support, staff discounts, cycle-to-work and car lease schemes.
Choosing where to take the next step in your social work career is an important decision, and we'd love the opportunity to tell you more about what Bury can offer.
