Waste Operations Supervisor

About the Role
We are looking for a proactive and motivated Waste Operations Supervisor to join Bury Council’s Waste Management Service.
This is a key frontline leadership role where you will support the delivery of a high-quality, efficient and customer-focused waste and recycling service across the borough.
You will be responsible for supervising daily operations, supporting service improvements, and ensuring the service runs safely and effectively in a busy operational environment.
What You Will Be Doing
- Supervising day-to-day waste and recycling operations
- Deploying staff, vehicles and equipment to meet service demands
- Planning and organising resources to ensure efficient service delivery
- Managing and supporting staff, including attendance, performance and wellbeing
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and Council procedures
- Responding to service requests, enquiries and complaints
- Monitoring performance and identifying service improvements
- Dealing with operational issues on-site and supporting teams in real time
Our Team
You will be joining a dedicated Waste and Street Cleansing team committed to delivering essential services to residents and maintaining clean and safe communities across Bury.
We work in a fast-paced environment where teamwork, communication and a positive approach are essential. You will play a key role in leading and supporting frontline staff while contributing to ongoing service improvements and development.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience supervising or leading operational teams
- Has strong organisational skills and can manage competing priorities
- Has a good understanding of health and safety in a practical environment
- Communicates clearly and confidently with colleagues and stakeholders
- Can deal effectively with operational challenges and customer issues
- Is flexible and willing to work outside normal hours, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays where required
- Is committed to delivering a high standard of service
- Has a full driving licence
- Is able to work outdoors in all weathers
