Applications Support Officer (Corporate Business Applications)

About the role
Bury Council is looking for an Applications Support Officer to support our Corporate Business Applications, such as Unit4, Aareon QL, iTrent and Microsoft 365, playing a vital role in keeping essential frontline services running smoothly.
You’ll be part of a specialist applications team providing handson technical support and system administration for our key corporate business applications used daily by service teams. These systems are businesscritical, and the work you do will have a direct impact on service delivery to the residents of Bury,
This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys problemsolving, working closely with users, and developing their technical skills in a complex, realworld environment.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing first and second line support for corporate business applications, responding to incidents and service requests logged through the Service Desk
- Investigating, diagnosing and resolving application and system issues in line with council processes and service level agreements
- Carrying out system administration activities, including user account management and routine maintenance, in line with IT security policies
- Accurately documenting fixes, changes and known issues, contributing to the IT knowledge base
- Supporting application upgrades, module testing and mediumsized work packages as required
- Engaging with service users to understand issues, demand and opportunities for improvement
- Liaising with thirdparty suppliers to help resolve technical issues, tracking actions and outcomes
- Producing and maintaining technical documentation in line with council information management standards
What we’re looking for
You’ll be someone who enjoys working with systems and people, and who can remain calm, methodical and customerfocused in a live support environment.
You’ll bring:
- Experience supporting business or lineofbusiness applications within a large or complex organisation
- The ability to analyse problems and resolve technical or system issues in a structured way
- Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to users with varying levels of IT confidence
- Experience producing clear technical documentation and knowledge articles
- Confidence working with external suppliers and following issues through to resolution
- An organised approach to managing and prioritising workload to meet agreed service levels
Experience of supporting local government business applications is desirable, but we welcome applicants with transferable application support experience.

Additional information
- Occasional outofhours working may be required to support upgrades or service changes
- Office attendance is currently a minimum of two days per week but may change in line with service requirements
