• Closing date Thursday 14th May, interviews will be held w/c Monday 18th May
About us
We are a statutory service whose remit is to provide short term, interim education and support for children of statutory school age (5 – 16) who are unable to attend school because of a medical need, or complex SEND (with an EHCP).
Our team consists of qualified teachers, a SENCO, a therapist, a team of caseworkers, an examinations and attendance officer and a business support officer.
We provide bespoke tuition which takes place either at our tuition centre in Orpington, remotely (via Teams) or if medically indicated, in the child’s home, public libraries and community centres. We also provide education using the latest technology such as the AV1 audio visual unit. Additionally, the service is responsible for providing education to children in hospital and has a schoolroom on the children’s ward at the Princess Royal University Hospital.
About the role
Due to expansion of the service, we are seeking outstanding teachers to join our team. You will have a teaching timetable which will include delivery of lessons to a range of age groups, across a variety of locations (tuition centre, local libraries, pupil’s homes), and online. You should be confident with working independently but equally committed to be being part of a team. The service is expanding to provide interim tuition and educational support to children and young people with an EHCP who are not currently attending a provision. The successful candidate will have experience of implementing evidence-based strategies to support learners with SEND. Teaching will include delivery of the core subjects across key stages. Having a core subject specialism would be helpful but is not essential.
What we are looking for:
- A teacher who wants to make a difference where it most counts and who believes that every young person has the potential to succeed in education with the right help and support.
- A teacher who is creative thinker with a flexible approach to curriculum delivery and a willingness to think out of the box to plan and facilitate bespoke learning through a variety of methods.
- A teacher who can demonstrate a good understanding of special educational needs; direct experience supporting neurodiverse children would be beneficial as would experience gained in a SEN or AP setting.
- A teacher who is willing to deliver the core subjects across a variety of key stages – a willingness to upskill is essential. The successful candidate will be well supported by our subject leads.
- The successful candidate will need to be able to travel across the Borough so access to a car is essential.
- Experience teaching KS3/4 (or a willingness to deliver to this age range) would be beneficial.
What we can offer you
We can offer you a unique experience away from the mainstream. This is an opportunity to develop your skillset with children with a variety of needs, SEND, physical and mental health related. You will usually be teaching 1:1 or in a small group (max size 5/6 students), as our service provides bespoke, personalised education the pace of the service is slower, providing teachers with the opportunity to thoughtfully plan and deliver highly individualised education in a calm environment. As most teaching is 1:1 or 1:2/3 there are rarely issues with behaviour that isn’t helpful for learning. As we work closely with complex cases monthly supervision is offered to every team member. There are opportunities for multi-agency working and CPD sessions are held regularly.
To understand the uniqueness of the role we strongly encourage prospective candidates to contact us to arrange an informal discussion with our Lead Teacher. To arrange this please contact Amanda Carter – Amanda.Carter@bromley.gov.uk.
Candidates who have previously applied to work in our service are welcome to apply. CV’s will not be accepted without a completed application form.
