Information Management Officer (maternity cover in the SAR team)
Part-time: 21 hours per week on a Secondment (flexible working will be considered) until 31st July 2027
Salary: BR9: from £37,262 pro rata
The Council’s Customer Relations Service is seeking to recruit an Information Management Officer on a fixed-term basis. This is to cover an existing team member who will be taking maternity leave.
The Service as a whole handles complaints, MP enquiries, subject access requests under the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests. It is a central part of the drive to improve the Council’s learning from the feedback it receives.
This role centres on the handling of subject access requests – from receiving, triaging and logging requests to collating the required data and redacting it in accordance with established principles.
You’ll be joining an established and experienced team who work hard in a friendly atmosphere. You’ll have your own caseload of requests to oversee whilst working as a team with your colleagues. We use OneTrust to manage, track and report on requests which you’ll keep updated.
Previous relevant experience would be ideal, given the need to hit the ground running, but is not essential as detailed training and support on the job, both upfront and ongoing, is available for the right candidate.
We aim to help those who contact us to the best of our ability whilst supporting our colleagues, in accordance with Council policies and various statutory regulations. You could be dealing on a daily basis with the public, Council officers, service users, Councillors, Members of Parliament and national regulators and will be able to adjust your approach to suit. A calm, personable and empathetic manner is therefore essential, as is a recognition of the value and impact of good customer service.
Applications will be assessed based on the criteria set out
in the Job Description and Person Specification, which can be found here.
If you would like an informal discussion regarding this opportunity, please contact Mark Smeed, Head of Customer Relations, on (020) 8461 7910 or by email to mark.smeed@bromley.gov.uk.
The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 14th August 2026. Interviews will be scheduled as soon as possible thereafter. Due to the importance of the correct use of the English language in this role, if at all possible applicants are asked to avoid using AI in the drafting of their applications and any related documents so that we get a proper sense of your capabilities. Depending on timescales and the number of applications received, applicants may be asked to compete a written test prior to any interview.
