Environmental Health Apprentice (Level 6)

The London Borough of Bromley is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Public Protection Service as an Environmental Health Apprentice.

This is an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn, gain valuable practical experience alongside a nationally recognised Level 6 Environmental Health Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship. Working with experienced Environmental Health professionals, you will support the delivery of a wide range of services that protect residents, visitors and businesses across the borough.

About the Role

As an Environmental Health Degree Apprentice, you will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner. You will gain experience across a variety of Environmental Health functions, including:

  • Investigating complaints and service requests.
  • Supporting inspections of commercial and residential premises.
  • Assisting with enforcement activities and regulatory interventions.
  • Providing advice and guidance to businesses and residents.
  • Supporting outreach, education and awareness activities.
  • Maintaining case records, databases and management information systems.
  • Working on projects that contribute to the protection of public health and the environment.
  • Developing knowledge and understanding of Environmental Health legislation.

You will work under the guidance of experienced Environmental Health Officers and managers whilst completing your apprenticeship programme and End Point Assessment.

Apprenticeship Programme

You will be enrolled on the Level 6 Environmental Health Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship delivered by Middlesex University.

As part of the programme, you will be required to:

  • Attend Middlesex University in person for approximately two days per week during teaching periods.
  • Travel independently to the university campus and meet any associated travel requirements.
  • Successfully pass all pre assessments for enrolment, complete academic assignments, workplace learning activities and portfolio requirements.
  • Successfully complete the apprenticeship and End Point Assessment.

Entry Requirements

To be considered for this apprenticeship, applicants must meet the entry requirements for the Level 6 Environmental Health Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship, including:

  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • A minimum of 112 UCAS tariff points (or equivalent qualification), typically achieved through:
    • A Levels,
    • BTEC Level 3 qualifications,
    • T Levels, or
    • Other recognised Level 3 qualifications.
