Working pattern: (Hybrid – 2 days per week office attendance))
The London Borough of Bromley is seeking two enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Accountants to join our highly motivated, high-performing, and friendly Finance Team.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to develop their finance career within a supportive local government environment. The successful candidates will play a key role in delivering a comprehensive financial service across a range of Council services.
Reporting directly to a Senior Accountant, you will work in a busy and dynamic environment, providing financial support and advice to service managers and budget holders while assisting the wider Finance Team.
Key Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, estimates, and the year-end closure of accounts.

Provide day-to-day financial advice and support to budget holders and service managers.

Support the Senior Accountant and Principal Finance Officer in delivering an effective finance service.

Maintain the Council's financial systems, including:

Budget input and monitoring

Budget adjustments
-
Journal transfers
-
Bank reconciliations
-
Other financial administration activities as required
-
Produce, analyse, and interpret financial information and reports.

Assist with financial monitoring, forecasting, and budget management activities.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will:
-
Have experience of financial administration and financial controls within a large organisation.

Possess a sound understanding of accounting principles, budgeting, and budgetary control.

Be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and financial/accounting systems.
-
Have strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively to meet deadlines.

Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.

Be confident in analysing, interpreting, and presenting financial information.
-
Ideally hold an AAT qualification or be actively studying towards a recognised accounting or finance qualification.
