This is an exciting opportunity to be a key part of a highly motivated, strong performing and friendly finance team at the London Borough of Bromley.
We are looking for 4 enthusiastic and motivated people to join our accountancy team providing a wide range of financial services to our budget holders and service directors across the Resources, Children’s Social Care, Adults Social Care & Housing divisions, with one role also being in Capital and Strategy.
Bromley Council is growing and the need for financial support for our services are greater than ever, this is why at Bromley we are increasing the resources in our finance function to ensure the standard of service delivered remains at the highest level and all statutory responsibilities around the production of the accounts and audit are met to the highest standard.
The Principal Finance Officer will report directly to the Senior Accountant. Operating in a busy environment, they will need to be flexible and be responsible for providing a comprehensive financial service to specified service areas, actively contributing to support other members of the finance team.
Some of the responsibilities include:

Preparation of annual estimates and the closing of accounts

Provision of day-to-day financial advice to senior managers and budget holders

Assisting in forecasting and managing the budgetary implications for service delivery caused by the specialist and unpredictable nature of some of the services delivered by the Council including commenting on the financial impact of service proposals

Support the capital and revenue budget monitoring process
A key responsibility will be providing financial advice, information and guidance to budget holders and service managers. You will therefore need excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey financial issues to non-finance colleagues.
Preferably you should meet the following criteria but candidates with similar experience and/or relevant transferable skills will be considered:

Have experience of managing budgets, and knowledge of the principles of budget preparation and accounting.

Be experienced in the use of accounting packages Excel and Word.

Have a strong customer focus with good communication skills.

Be AAT qualified or part qualified CCAB.
