Bristol City Council is seeking an Application Support Officer. The role is responsible for providing reliable, effective application support for the core systems used within the Revenues and Benefits service areas.

This is an exciting opportunity for experienced application support professional’s looking to take the next step to a support officer role within a large and complex organisation, supporting high-profile services that make a real difference to Bristol’s communities.

Reporting to the Application Support Lead/Senior, you will provide application support and administration for a variety of business line applications utilised by a large service area that administers Council Tax, Non-Domestic Rates, Business Improvement Districts (BIDS), Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction. Knowledge of the specific applications utilised is welcome but not necessary, however you must have an understanding of one of the business areas mentioned above. The team is the bridge between the business, the IT technical teams and the suppliers.

The role is varied and includes some complex routine activities. These activities include scheduling and processing of Revenues and Benefits batch work for recovery, Housing Benefit Subsidy/Payments, and operational teams’ workflow as well as maintenance of automated data processing amongst other tasks. The team receives a number of upgrades to existing software each year. The role includes co-ordinating/undertaking release upgrade testing including bug fixes, new and existing functionality.  

You will be highly motivated and organised, as you will be juggling many demands on your time to meet tight deadlines. You will be working in a supportive team where teamwork is an important part of the role as is attention to detail and stakeholder/customer communication. The team are continually improving the applications we support making them more efficient by reducing manual intervention. You will be involved in such improvements. 

You will be pivotal to our annual billing processing taking place between February and March, leading on specific areas such as Council Tax (211,000 residential properties), Non-Domestic Rates (17,000 businesses) billing and roll over, Housing Benefit/Council Tax Schemes and Reduction as well as Business Improvement District schemes billing and roll over taking place annually between September and November.

Please note some out of hours working (weekends) throughout the year is required for the posts.
