Be part of a team delivering high-quality new housing development projects in Bristol’s council homes development programme.

Do you have the skills and experience to contribute to delivering more high quality, affordable homes in Bristol, to help ensure the city’s success benefits all our citizens?

At Bristol City Council, we work together to make Bristol a better place - now and for future generations. With 19,000 households on the city’s housing waiting list and 1,000 households living in temporary accommodation, the council is working hard to tackle the unmet need for affordable housing in Bristol.

One key strand of this work is our new council homes development programme delivered by the Housing Delivery Team, which is contributing to the city’s Affordable Housing Delivery Plan 2025-2027 to deliver thousands of new truly affordable homes.

The new council homes development programme sits alongside other strands of work delivered through our Housing Association partners and the council’s housing development company, Goram Homes.

If you are passionate about delivering high-quality new affordable housing development this role offers an excellent opportunity to help us achieve these goals, working in a dynamic and supportive Housing Delivery Team.

What will I be doing?

You will undertake a variety of responsibilities to support the delivery of new housing developments on council-owned land in Bristol, through the new council homes development programme. This will include working closely with a Housing Development Manager or Construction Manager to support them on all aspects of development from inception, feasibility, design, planning, construction and handover of the completed homes.

You will be part of a small team delivering new-build projects via direct delivery of sites from feasibility studies, options and viability appraisals, planning applications through to appointment of construction contractors, delivery on-site and handover, or through the acquisition of homes from the market.

The role will include being involved in securing detailed planning consents on multiple, complex residential developments, and developing financial appraisals working closely with our funders to ensure feasible and viable development proposals.

What experience and skills do I need to have?

If you have demonstrable housing development experience, a track record of making a contribution to successful development projects and are passionate about delivering high-quality new homes please apply.

You will also need to demonstrate experience of working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, consultants and contractors in multi-disciplinary project teams to overcome hurdles and challenges to successfully deliver development projects.

Ideally, you will have a relevant professional qualification. It would be beneficial to have relevant experience of working within a Local Authority, Housing Association or similar environment although this is not essential.
