Sustainability Officer - Air Quality

We are excited to announce that we are recruiting for a 2 year fixed term position working in the field of air quality.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about environmental issues, well-organised, versatile, experienced working with data and also with small projects. The position is working closely with a cohesive team of three working on air quality, within a larger Sustainability & Climate Change Service.

Here is some background on us:
We generate a significant amounts of data which requires analysis. Combined with our knowledge and expertise this enables us to provide a range of services: we submit statutory air quality reports to government, provide expert advice to colleagues working on transport schemes such as the Clear Air Zone, analyse planning applications for their impact on outdoor air quality and are currently developing a Clear Air Strategy and Action Plan.
We work with colleagues across the council particularly in public health and transport, environmental health, and in partnership with universities to promote and support a reduction in pollution from a wide range of sources across the city.

We are looking for a professional who is proficient at analysing and interpreting data.
You must have a current driving licence and be available for call-outs to our air quality monitoring sites, if needed.
We are looking for someone who is also interested in working with a range of colleagues in different teams to develop actions for our Air Quality Action Plan and get involved in communications and raising awareness to inspire everyone to take action on clean air.
Key elements of the role include (depending on expertise and suitability),
- Planning and delivering air quality projects
- Air quality communication and engagement activities
- Working with colleagues to develop actions for the forthcoming Air Quality Strategy and Action Plan
- Reviewing air quality assessments in planning applications
- Cover for air quality monitoring site duties

For permanent Bristol City Council employees, this post will be a secondment.
For employees who are currently on a fixed term contract with Bristol City Council, the secondment must not extend beyond the end of the fixed term period to ensure there is a substantive post to return to.
If you are currently a casual worker or a member of an employment agency (currently working with Bristol City Council) this post will be a fixed term contract.
