Bristol Libraries are looking for a professionally qualified children’s librarian to provide services to children and young people.
Key tasks include:
- Selection and management of stock for 26 libraries across Bristol making sure to reflect the diversity of the city. Your role will be key in making sure we have a wide range of current, appealing and diverse materials to support children and young people in both reading for pleasure and literacy.
- Support staff to provide a welcoming, professional service to children and young people.
- Promoting library services to children, young people and families, both within Central Library and outside via class visits, activities, events and partnership working.
- Being part of the Central Library Duty Manager rota and manage a team of Library Assistants.
- Ensuring that the Central Library Children’s Library is a welcoming and vibrant space.
You will be based most of the time at Central Library but will work on stock across the city. Central Library is an iconic Grade 1 listed building that sees over 1000 visitors a day, it is a complex building with seven floors including two public floors and a historic reading room; areas of the library are often used for exhibitions and events. Services from Central Library include a lending library for adults and children, a reference library, research and study spaces, computer areas, a business centre, a café and meeting and hire spaces.
The library is also the central hub for the distribution of stock and resources across the Bristol Libraries network of 26 libraries.
Hours - 18.5hrs on a job-share basis:
Week 1 Mon 9-5 Tues 9-7 Weds 9-5
Week 2 Tues 9-7 Weds 9-2 Sun 12-5
Week 3 Mon 9-5 Tues 9-7
Week 4 Tues 9-7 Weds 9-5
This post is on-site at Central Library with occasional visits to other libraries, it is not suitable for hybrid working.
