The Role
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Autism Specialist Outreach Teacher to support secondary mainstream schools in delivering high-quality, inclusive education for young people with autism spectrum condition (ASC).
This is a specialist outreach role working across a range of secondary settings, where you will provide expert advice, model effective strategies and build the confidence and capability of school staff. You will play a key role in improving outcomes for autistic students and promoting inclusive practice across the borough.
Key responsibilities include:
• Providing specialist advice and guidance to secondary schools on supporting students with ASC, including those within additionally resourced provisions
• Observing practice and providing constructive feedback, coaching and modelling to enhance teaching and support approaches
• Supporting schools to set and review individual targets and implement effective interventions
• Delivering and contributing to CPD and training for school staff on autism and inclusive practice
• Working in partnership with parents, carers and a range of professionals to support students’ progress and wellbeing
• Contributing to multi-agency working and the development of joint training and approaches
• Supporting the development of resources to improve access to the curriculum and school environment
• Maintaining accurate records and contributing to service improvement and development

The Person
We are looking for an experienced teacher with specialist knowledge of autism and a strong commitment to inclusive education and partnership working.
You will:
• Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have a relevant teaching qualification
• Have significant experience working in mainstream secondary schools with students with ASC
• Bring strong knowledge of autism, including effective strategies and approaches to support learning and engagement
• Have experience supporting staff development through coaching, mentoring or delivering training
• Demonstrate a secure understanding of SEND legislation, inclusion and best practice in secondary settings
• Be confident working with SENCOs, school staff, families and a range of multi-agency partners
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build strong relationships
• Be highly organised and able to manage your time effectively across multiple schools
• Be committed to continuous professional development and improving outcomes for young people with SEND
