The Post
As a Contact Worker you will be responsible for supervising contact sessions between children and their families, ensuring that each session takes place in a safe, supportive and child-centred environment. You will actively promote and safeguard the emotional and physical wellbeing of children at all times, managing any risks that may arise during contact. The role includes safely transporting children to and from contact sessions, both within and outside of the borough. You will be required to observe, accurately record and produce clear, objective reports of contact sessions to a standard suitable for use in family court proceedings, maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to relevant policies and statutory guidelines.
The Person
No formal qualifications are required for this post however you must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear professional reports. You will have knowledge of relevant current legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and the Children Act 2004, alongside a sound understanding of child development, child protection and safeguarding issues. A clear commitment to promoting the needs and welfare of children and their parents/guardians is essential, as is experience of working with children and families.
You should be confident in managing challenging behaviours, using effective de-escalation strategies and maintaining professionalism at all times, particularly when working with vulnerable service users. You should have the ability to work independently as a lone worker, exercising sound judgement and adhering to safeguarding procedures in line with council policies.
You must also be in good physical health, with a level of fitness appropriate to childcare duties.
Access to your own vehicle, a full clean driving licence and appropriate business insurance cover are essential as the role involves transporting children to and from contact sessions.
