Operations Support Manager
Braintree District Council
We have an exciting opportunity for a people-focused Operations Support Manager to join our busy and evolving Operations team.
Working closely with the Strategy and Business Development Manager, you will play a key role in leading and developing a diverse range of teams, including Waste Minimisation and Sustainability, Business Support and Cemeteries. Your primary focus will be on creating a positive, high-performing working environment where individuals and teams can thrive.
You will take the lead on all aspects of people management, including performance development, absence management, employee engagement and wellbeing, and managing disciplinary and capability processes with confidence and empathy. You will coach, support and motivate your teams, helping them to deliver their best and encouraging a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
A key part of the role will involve empowering your teams to promote their services, contribute ideas and take ownership of new initiatives. You will actively support their professional development, identifying opportunities for learning and growth, and helping to build future capability across the service.
You will also represent the service externally, building relationships through partnership meetings, trade events and networking opportunities, ensuring your teams remain informed, connected and engaged with wider industry developments.
Alongside your people leadership responsibilities, you will maintain oversight of service performance by coordinating updates to the corporate performance monitoring system and supporting the effective management of operational environments, including health and safety planning and site visits.
This is a varied and fast paced role that requires a resilient, approachable and forward thinking leader who can inspire others, manage change positively and think creatively to overcome challenges.
You will bring substantial experience of leading multiple teams, with a strong track record of developing people and driving high performance through effective leadership.
While knowledge of the recycling industry and relevant qualifications would be beneficial, we are equally keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate outstanding people management skills, emotional intelligence and a genuine commitment to supporting others to succeed.
Flexibility is essential, as you will take part in a weekend out of hours duty rota. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes are required.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join our Operations service at a time of change and transformation. If you are an inspiring leader with excellent communication skills, the ability to prioritise and delegate effectively, and a passion for developing people, we would love to hear from you.
