We have a lovely opportunity for a Community Transport Operative/Driver to join our Housing and Communities team for a fixed term period until March 2027.
The Braintree Community Transport Scheme provides a social car scheme, dial a ride scheme and minibus hire to residents, community groups and schools across the Braintree District. The scheme is membership based and provides transport to health and social appointments, shopping, events and local activities.
As part of our minibus driver team, you will take individuals and groups to events in their local community, appointments, shopping and to visit friends and relatives, contributing to their wellbeing and quality of life.
You will ensure passengers feel safe, supported and cared for, considering any additional needs or assistance required, complete and return daily journey log sheets and liaise with the Community Services Manager to confirm eligibility to use the service.
You will also assist the manager in promoting the service, ensuring people in the district, particularly those who are socially excluded, are aware of its availability.
As part of the role, you will ensure the vehicles are roadworthy and ready to transport customers and will plan cost effective routes.
You will need a full UK driving licence, with the ability to drive category ‘D’ and/or ‘D1’, an understanding of Health and Safety, including manual handling and risk assessment, and good knowledge of the Braintree District.
With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you will be polite, helpful and confident when engaging with members of the public, including vulnerable clients from community groups and schools.
You will approach your work with a positive, flexible and proactive attitude and be willing to be involved in all areas of Community Transport, working well both independently and as part of a team.
This role will involve occasional evenings and weekends.
