Job Introduction

Customer and Welfare Services

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑focused officer to support residents facing financial hardship. You will be responsible for assessing, awarding, and monitoring crisis and housing payments, and other local welfare schemes in line with legislation, council policy, and best practice.

This is a key customer‑facing role requiring sound judgement, empathy, and a strong understanding of welfare benefits and financial assessment.

The successful candidate must have excellent IT skills, written and verbal communication and be able to produce work with a high degree of accuracy, paying strong attention to detail and complete it effectively and to tight deadlines.

Successful candidates can expect to receive:

 

  • 25 days per year holiday entitlement (increasing to 30 days after 5 years’ service) and a further 8 public holidays as well as the opportunity to take extra time off under our flexi scheme 
  • The option to work at home, provided the required knowledge level and work targets are met 
  • Flexibility around your working hours (subject to the needs of the business and team) 
  • Membership of the West Yorkshire Local Government Pension scheme
  • A city centre working location – within walking distance of the bus and train stations and the main shopping centres.
