Job Introduction

The Design and Compliance team works across the Council’s entire building estate, delivering a diverse range of projects – from smallscale community facilities such as public conveniences, through to some of the city’s most significant and historic buildings, including City Hall.

A major focus of our current programme is within Education, where we deliver projects for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role offers exceptional variety, working across newbuild, refurbishment and temporary accommodation, designing and delivering thoughtful, practical and inclusive solutions that respond directly to user needs and project challenges.

 

We are seeking an experienced Architectural Technologist to join its Built Environment team and play a key role in the delivery of high‑quality building projects across the district.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to work on a diverse portfolio of projects, providing technical design expertise and project delivery support from feasibility through to completion. You will work closely with architects, engineers, consultants and contractors, helping to shape safe, sustainable and well‑designed buildings that serve our communities.

The main responsibilities of this role:

  • Delivering technical design services, including drawings, specifications and schedules 
  • Managing technical design stages and supporting the delivery of construction projects from inception to completion
  • Advising clients on feasibility, statutory compliance, procurement routes, programme and cost implications
  • Briefing and coordinating external consultants and contractors
  • Ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, Planning, CDM, Fire Safety and the Building Safety Act
  • Undertaking site inspections to monitor quality, progress and compliance
  • Using and promoting digital systems including AutoCAD, Revit, NBS, BIM, CAFM and IWMS
  • Maintaining accurate project records and contributing to service improvement and best practice 

 

About You

 

We are looking for a confident and wellorganised Architectural Technologist with strong technical knowledge and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

 

  • At least 3 years’ relevant experience in architectural technology or a related builtenvironment role
  • Proven experience producing technical design and working drawing packages
  • A sound understanding of construction, statutory compliance and procurement processes
  • The ability to lead and coordinate work within multidisciplinary design teams
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with a solutionfocused approach

 

Qualifications required:

  • Degree in Architectural Technology or HNC/HND/BTEC (or equivalent) in Building Construction or a related discipline
  • MCIAT membership

 

A commitment to continuing professional development is essential.
