Senior Mechanical Sweeper Driver-East
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Sweeper Driver to join our dedicated team in the Parks & Street Cleansing East. This role is an opportunity to make a real difference in our vibrant and diverse city.
The main responsibilities of this role:
- To be responsible for the effective collection of street litter and detritus by providing the best service to ensure a high standard of cleanliness of parks, highways, and public areas at all times.
- To drive and operate a Mechanical Sweeper on scheduled routes, to sweep pavements and precincts and clean road channels, road surfaces and other hard surface areas, to lead and co-ordinate with multiple small teams working outdoors carrying out cleansing duties within an identified area across the district.
- Duties will include: driving and operating a range of sweeping vehicles (both mechanical pavement sweepers and mid-range mechanical sweepers), using appropriate attachments i.e wander hose and jetter equipment to carry out sweeping and ancillary duties. Ensuring hazard warnings are displayed, undertaking seasonal work (for example, leaf clearing, snow clearing) ; disposal of contents of vehicle; vehicle checks required routine maintenance and cleaning (including ancillary equipment) Ensuring the security of the vehicle and safe working on the highway.
- .Other duties as directed by the Parks & Street Cleansing Manager which are aligned to the other area of the Street Cleansing operation and may involve driving different types of vehicle or engaging in other manual work.
- Post holder will be expected to identify and report back any defects or issues relating to other areas within the Parks & Street Cleansing operation to the designated section i.e. blocked gullies & street lights out to Highways department, private land issues to Environmental Protection etc.
- To be responsible for the security of the depot and buildings within designated area of responsibility including opening and closing depot/buildings as necessary.
- To be responsible for the supervision and direction of depot employees generally operating in line with defined operational methods but requiring regular 'on the spot' decisions with regard to work schedules, priorities and issues in order to ensure delivery of a quality service.
- Will be required to assist and cover for the Parks & Street Cleansing Manager, undertaking morning office duties, dealing with telephone requests, carrying out return to work interviews for team members and conducting test and inspects or engaging in other duties.
- To carry out identified duties in the absence of the Parks & Street Cleansing Manager or as directed by the Area Coordinator.
