Job Introduction
Bradford Council’s Bereavement Services provide compassionate, professional support for families, overseeing burials, cremations and memorial arrangements across the district, delivering around 3,800 funerals each year with dignity and care.
As a Bereavement Services Officer you will be expected to effectively manage the arrangements for burials and cremations including taking bookings, researching/processing documentation and maintaining accurate records as appropriate to the needs of the service. Following the identification of grave plots on site and the completion of individual risk assessments, you will ensure that they are opened to the correct specification followed by attendance at the burial to ensure interments conform to legal requirements.
The successful candidate will be:
- Able to communicate sensitively and professionally, often with bereaved families and work with a high degree of accuracy across a range of activities using both paper and electronic systems.
- Expected to carry out cremations on a regular basis, once trained and qualified
- Competent in, and comfortable with, the use of a range of ICT packages
- A driving licence holder and with access to appropriate transport to allow cost and time effective visits to sites across the District in all weather conditions.
- Familiar with the theory and application of health & safety policies, procedures and regulations including risk assessment and safe working guides
- Able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment, where appropriate, to include access to difficult terrains, lifting heavy registers and charging coffins into cremators
The basic week is 37 hours with the requirement to take part in a weekend call out rota for out of hour’s burial cover. A flexi time scheme is in operation.
