Job Introduction

This is an exciting opportunity to join Bradford Council's Planning Enforcement Team and play a key role in shaping and protecting the built environment across the Bradford District. As one of the UK's most vibrant and diverse districts, Bradford continues to experience significant growth and regeneration, making this a rewarding and varied role within a high-performing Planning Service. 

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Enforcement Officer to join our dedicated Planning Enforcement team. This is an opportunity to make a real difference in our vibrant and diverse district. The successful candidate will investigate alleged breaches of planning control, assess the expediency of enforcement action, and lead on complex and sensitive cases. You will be responsible for preparing and progressing formal enforcement action, including cases that may proceed to appeal or prosecution. As a senior member of the team, you will also provide guidance, mentoring and support to Enforcement Officers, helping to develop skills, share knowledge and promote consistent decision-making across the service. You will work closely with colleagues in Development Management, Legal Services and other Council departments to ensure effective delivery of the Council's planning enforcement function. A full driving licence is required as the role involves undertaking site visits across the Bradford District.

You will have:

  • Experience of planning enforcement, development management, or a related planning discipline.
  • A good understanding of planning legislation, policy and procedures.
  • Strong investigative and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of preparing reports and presenting evidence clearly and effectively.
  • The ability to manage a varied caseload and work independently whilst contributing positively to a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience of mentoring, supporting or supervising colleagues and sharing professional knowledge to develop others.
  • Ability to provide technical advice and guidance on complex enforcement matters.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and support team performance.
