The Role
Bolton Trading Standards are looking for a Trainee Trading Standards Officer to train and help tackle the issues raised in the Borough through illegal trade of illicit tobacco, vaping products and other types of illegal goods that are having a negative impact on our communities.
We are looking for dynamic and committed individual with a flexible approach to problem solving to join the existing direction of the Trading Standards service to tackle and disrupt illegal trade in Bolton using both traditional and alternative methods of investigation and disruption.
The role will require additional structured learning while working with other agencies and partners to protect the public and legitimate businesses from illegal trading.
About You
You will have a strong interest in learning all aspects of trading standards including investigating and disrupting criminal activity and have the desire to make a difference in this area of work. You will need the ability to pick things up quickly and be adaptable to rapidly changing and evolving tasks, investigations and demands.
You need to have a flexible approach to working hours for occasional evening and weekend work may be required. You will have strong verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative approach to partnership working. As this post requires you to travel around the borough, you must hold a full, current and valid driving licence and a vehicle with a current valid MOT certificate.
This post requires you to undertake a Level 6 apprenticeship in Trading Standards, you must not already hold a Level 6 apprenticeship or Trading Standards qualification at the same level or above. You will also need GCSE’s (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or higher, A Level qualifications or equivalent, and a recognised qualification or study which includes consumer protection law or work experience in the enforcement statutes.
Previous experience, knowledge, qualification or study in the areas of criminal legislation, investigation or enforcement are desirable.
