The Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic colleagues to join our Educational Psychology Service and be part of our new and very exciting Experts at Hand Team in Bolton, the only area of the NW with the highest Area wide inspection judgement. We are a supportive team in a local authority where SEND is given a high priority and where we have strong working relationships with our schools.

This post will involve supporting schools strategically as well as providing consultation and advice for parents/carers, children’s services colleagues, health professionals and relevant others, to assist in meeting the needs of Bolton children and young people aged 0-25 years. The role of the Experts at Hand Team will evolve over time, but will focus on strategic and systemic work in schools to improve SEND provision. This post will also involve responding to requests for assessment, consultation, training and group-work from schools, settings and the Local Authority. The postholder would also be required to undertake statutory assessments of children and write psychological advice as required. In addition, the postholder would also have the opportunity to be involved in some project work such as supporting whole school approaches to mental health and emotional wellbeing, specialist interest groups and the Critical Incident Support Service.

About You
The ideal candidates for these main grade EP posts will be enthusiastic educational psychologists with an excellent understanding of children and young people’s cognitive, social and emotional development. You will be an effective communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with children, young people, families and all stakeholders at both a strategic and whole school level and an individual child level. You will be fully committed to ensuring that the special educational needs of children and young people are met and their outcomes improved. You will also be a team player with a desire to join and contribute to our supportive team.

Applicants will be registered, or eligible for registration, with the HCPC, with a degree in psychology and a recognised postgraduate qualification in Educational Psychology. Applications for this post are welcome from those completing their training in 2026 or 2027 (i.e. those in Years 2 and 3 of their training), and from those wishing to work full time, part time or term time only.
