The Role:

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic Technical Officer to join our busy Pollution Control team here at Bolton Council.

Working as part of a friendly and supportive team, you will carry out a wide range of duties in relation to pollution control matters including nuisance and contaminated land. You will see through cases from the provision of advice, guidance, serving of notices to enforcement and deal with a wide range of customers. The work will be reactive in dealing with complaints and requests and also proactive in assessing the environmental impacts of planning applications. You will also respond to licensing consultations. Using your excellent communication and customer care skills you will promote excellent standards within Bolton and be able to take appropriate enforcement action, where required, to achieve compliance. Your excellent decision-making skills will be key to this role.

The pollution control team sits within Regulatory Services who cover statutory functions of food, health and safety, Licensing, Education and Enforcement, Pest Control and Trading Standards.

The work is varied and challenging, and the role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and experience within our team. You will manage and complete your own workload to set deadlines whilst assisting colleagues when needed.

About You:

You must be able to cope with a demanding workload, managing your own priorities whilst also effectively working as part of a team, communicating clearly and frequently with a wide range of people.

You must be able to accurately collect and record information, whilst also evaluating and scrutinising data to underpin decisions. An awareness of information sources and demonstrable computer skills are key for this role.

Having a flexible approach is key as you may be required to carry out other Regulatory Services functions from time to time and, where necessary, work outside of core hours.
