Job Overview
Join Birmingham City Council's dynamic Applications Support Team as an experienced Application Support Engineer. You'll provide expert support for various software applications, including NEC Revenues & Benefits and Civica Collect. Collaborate with functional, development, delivery, and security teams to implement and support new and existing solutions.
The ideal candidate should be user-focused, motivated, and experienced in supporting internal teams. They must collaborate effectively with stakeholders to ensure successful implementation and performance of solutions in a dynamic environment.

The Role
As an Application Support Engineer, you will support the current application portfolio of a variety of applications in Revenues & Benefits, Finance, Legal, and Democratic services. You will collaborate with network, scheduling, database and other teams to support advanced solutions that meet business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Expertise: Ideally hands-on knowledge of a Revenues & Benefits application, with a preference for experience in 3rd Party products from NEC (formerly Northgate).
- Application Support: Contribute to seamless support and operation of applications across multiple business areas – such as dealing with service tickets, supporting testing and implementation of third party hosted solutions including updating of system parameters.
- Relationship Building: Develop and maintain excellent relationships with peers and stakeholders within the business
About You
- Experience: Experience in front-end systems administration of Revenues and Benefits and third party hosted solutions.
- Technical Skills: Strong IT skills, with extensive hands-on experience in implementing, trouble-shooting and managing software applications.
- Additional Skills: Ability to work on own initiative, and to develop and deliver own work plan, while also prioritising and organising the work of a multi-faceted application support service in a busy customer-facing environment.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels.
