Are you an experienced housing leader with a passion for preventing homelessness, improving housing outcomes and supporting some of the city's most vulnerable residents?
Birmingham City Council is seeking an exceptional Assistant Director to lead our Housing Solutions & Rough Sleeping Services. This is a high-profile leadership role with responsibility for shaping and delivering services that prevent homelessness, provide effective housing solutions and drive forward the city's response to rough sleeping.
You'll lead large, complex services through a period of transformation, ensuring statutory responsibilities are delivered effectively while driving innovation, partnership working and continuous improvement across the housing system.
About the Role
As Assistant Director, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across housing solutions, homelessness prevention and rough sleeping services, ensuring services are resident-focused, outcome-driven and aligned to the Council's wider housing ambitions.
You will:
- Lead the development and delivery of homelessness prevention, housing solutions and rough sleeping strategies.
- Drive service improvement, transformation and innovation to improve outcomes for residents.
- Build strong partnerships with health, social care, voluntary sector and housing providers.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory homelessness and housing duties.
- Lead large multidisciplinary teams, fostering a high-performance and customer-focused culture.
- Manage significant budgets, resources and commissioned services to achieve value for money.
- Provide strategic advice and support to senior leaders, elected members and key stakeholders.
About You
We are looking for a senior housing professional who can demonstrate:
- Significant leadership experience within homelessness, housing solutions, rough sleeping or wider housing services.
- A strong track record of leading large, complex teams and delivering service improvement.
- Extensive knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation, policy and best practice.
- Experience of working effectively within complex political and partnership environments.
- Strong commercial and financial management skills, including budget responsibility.
- Excellent stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills.
- The ability to lead organisational change while maintaining service performance and resident focus.
